Statutory Payments - Your Essential Guide

6-hour course

Course overview

Correctly administering statutory payments is very important, as errors can have a damaging and lasting impact. Regulations are constantly evolving, so it is vital to keep yourself up to date when dealing with payments relating to sickness, parental leave and termination. Errors can result in fines, penalties and issues with employees which could eventually lead to employee tribunal claims. HMRC are continuing to step up their enforcement efforts, so the risk of prosecution and reputational damage is growing.

This practical course explains your legal obligations regarding statutory payments and advises the most effective way to implement them. It will help you understand who is eligible for statutory payments and who is excluded; how payments are calculated; how they can be recovered; and what records need to be kept. Crucially, it will also provide you with answers to many of the practical issues and challenges which commonly arise in businesses when trying to apply the rules.

Attending this course will give you confidence in your ability to accurately apply the rules and avoid costly errors.

The course covers: sickness, termination and all aspects of parental pay including maternity, paternity, adoption, shared parental, parental bereavement, antenatal appointments and parental leave entitlement.

Who should attend?

This course will benefit all payroll staff who process the statutory payments and other people in the finance function who need to be aware of the impact that the payments have on the cost to the organisation. It will also benefit HR staff who have a responsibility for ensuring that their organisation is meeting all its obligations to make statutory payments to its employees.
