Data protection has been a major concern for HR professionals for a very long time, however, since the introduction of GDPR the consequences for getting things wrong have significantly increased.

This highly practical half-day course is designed to equip HR professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively manage and protect confidential employee data in compliance with the UK's data protection laws. Our expert presenter will explain the measures that must be in place to help your HR administration be compliant with the law.

The course is illustrated with real-world cases and will provide opportunities to get answers to your own issues and questions.

What will be covered?

Attending this course will help you to:

  • Comprehend the legal framework governing data protection in the UK
  • Understand how the key principles of GDPR and data protection should be applied to HR practices
  • Develop and implement effective data protection policies and procedures for HR activities
  • Respond to Data Subject Access Requests for employee data
  • Develop strategies for HR data retention and disposal
  • Produce appropriate employee Privacy Notices and other legally-required documentation for employers
  • Navigate the challenges of third-party processors (such as payroll agents) and international data transfers
  • Identify key security measures, practices and behaviours that can prevent staff data breaches
  • Prepare to manage data breaches and security incidents speedily and effectively
  • Handle high-risk data, including right to work checks, health information, disciplinary issues and equality monitoring processes

  • Keith Dewey

    Keith is a well-established information security and data protection practitioner, with extensive experience in training, public speaking and consulting.

    He has held CISO and DPO roles at large UK companies, and worked across a range of industries including financial services, utilities and real estate. Keith is also a Certified EU GDPR Practitioner, has a Certificate in Information Security Management Principles (CISMP) and passed the Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) and Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC) exams.
