Hilary Bevan

Hilary has over 20 years of experience working in accountancy and tax.  She is a qualified Chartered Certified Accountant as well as a Chartered Tax Adviser and an Associate of the Institute of Indirect Taxation.

In 2018 Hilary set up her own independent consultancy firm, providing specialist VAT advice to firms of accountants and businesses who don’t have their own in-house VAT expert. She has built up extensive technical knowledge over her years in practice and provides VAT advice on a range of topics from land & buildings to partial exemption. Hilary is passionate about VAT and regularly speaks on the subject, both to accounting professionals and to young academics who are interested in a career in tax.

Jon Britain

Jon is a Chartered Manager with 25 years of experience as a Learning & Development professional, working in many sectors across the UK, Europe, and the Middle East. His training style is 'active', engaging learners through activities, exercises, and discussions to ensure the learning is enjoyable and can be effectively transferred to the workplace.

Philip Davis

Philip delivers a wide range of management workshops and training programmes to a variety of audiences, both nationally and internationally. His training style is highly interactive, enabling the participants to extract the best outcomes from the course.

Philip is one of the authors of ‘Effective Minute Taking’ which is published by the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.

Keith Dewey

Keith is a well-established information security and data protection practitioner, with extensive experience in training, public speaking and consulting.

He has held CISO and DPO roles at large UK companies, and worked across a range of industries including financial services, utilities and real estate. Keith is also a Certified EU GDPR Practitioner, has a Certificate in Information Security Management Principles (CISMP) and passed the Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) and Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC) exams.

Debra Dougal

Debra has been a  VAT specialist for more than 35 years, with expertise in VAT compliance, land and property, charities, special schemes and VAT investigations. 

After working at HM Customs and Excise for 13 years, Debra went on to join Moore Stephens, before joining Haslers Chartered Accountants in 2005, where she was made a VAT Partner in 2007. In this role, she provides high level VAT advice to clients on a wide range of complex issues. She is also head of UK VAT Advice which supports accountants and lawyers by providing a virtual in-house VAT consultancy. 

Debra is a very experienced VAT lecturer, delivering seminars to clients, business groups and other professionals on topical VAT issues.  

Barry Durman

Barry has held a variety of line management positions in Customer Services and Credit Control and he now runs his own successful independent Credit Management Consultancy. He also has extensive experience of delivering training courses on all aspects of credit control. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Credit Management (FICM) and a Fellow of the Institute of Consulting (FCMC).

Kevin Guy

Kevin, a Chartered Accountant, has been presenting for UK Training for over 20 years and also has his own successful accountancy practice. He delivers Tax and Finance courses at public venues across the UK, in-house and live online.  

His vast knowledge and experience in a variety of subject areas means he can readily help attendees understand challenging issues in a clear and logical way.

David Hooper

David is Managing Director of Hooper and Co International Trade Consultancy Ltd, a business which specialises in providing advice and consultancy to businesses involved in international trade with a particular focus on customs, logistics and the practical issues of doing trade internationally.

He is also Director and founder of Independent Freight Solutions Ltd, a Midlands based freight forwarder and Customs Brokerage which is also an Authorised Economic Operator for Customs and Security. David has a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) with a distinction from Aston University and a Degree in Politics, Economics and Philosophy.

He is an experienced trainer having delivered training courses for the Department of International Trade and several Chambers of Commerce.

Laurence Howland

Laurence has 30 years experience working with HMRC as a criminal investigator and a specialist in tax fraud and financial crime. He has delivered training both within HMRC and internationally on proceeds of crime legislation, criminal finances and money laundering.

Laurence has also spent over 4 years as the UK Fiscal Crime Liaison Officer to Beijing working directly with the Chinese government and across the Far East to improve mutual understanding of and collaboration on international fraud and money laundering. He has acted as an expert witness in cases involving the underground transfer of funds from China to the UK.

David Impey

David Impey is a solicitor of 37 years’ standing, during which he has specialised exclusively in corporate/company law for private limited companies. He lectures regularly on company law and practice, and is known for his lively, practical approach. David helps people to understand the relevant company law rules and regulations, identify the practical pitfalls to look out for and the available solutions, and choose the best options for their company or client.

David has worked in-house, been a director of a market-leading legal services company, and set up and run two small businesses of his own. His technical competence in company law is underpinned by an in-depth understanding of the needs and priorities of both small and medium sized businesses. David is also co-author of ‘The Company Director: Powers, Duties and Liabilities’, ‘Running a Limited Company’ and ‘Modern Law of Meetings’ and a contributor to ‘Jordans Company Administration and Governance.’ 

David Joel

David is a Chartered Director and an active practicing non-executive director. He has been facilitating, delivering and mentoring at senior management and director level for over ten years in both the public and private sectors. He has also provided training and consultancy services through the Institute of Directors for over 12 years and has broad practical experience of business change management, board evaluation and in mergers and acquisitions.

Helen Lilley

Helen has worked for 25 years in International Trade, primarily as a Freight Forwarder in both sales and operational roles, delivering global supply chain solutions. She has delivered training for 15 years to freight forwarders and importers and exporters on numerous subjects, from Supply Chain Management to Incoterms and Customs Processes.

Helen is a fully qualified trainer offering a variety of International Trade courses and is an approved Certified Instructor on behalf of the Department for Transport & Civil Aviation Authority to deliver Air Cargo Security Training in accordance with the National Aviation Security Policy.

Paul Lower

Paul is a finance trainer with 25 years sharp end board level experience in world class international companies. For more than 30 years he has trained business managers to help them understand the key financial principles and apply them to improve their business decision making and bottom line results.

Paul has solid business experience as a CFO and Finance Director, and hands-on experience building great companies and improving profit and shareholder value. He uses his experience to bring his financial training courses to life with real business insights and relevant case studies and exercises.

Jo Marshall

Jo has more than 20 years’ experience of working in payroll roles, most recently for a software house with many external clients. She now runs her own payroll services company and delivers consultancy and training on payroll issues for a variety of clients.

Nigel Mellor

Nigel is a Chartered Tax Advisor who has specialised in VAT throughout his career.  He was previously an Indirect Tax Partner at Deloitte where he led the Asia Pacific Indirect Tax Team from a base in Singapore and the US VAT team from a base in New York.  Nigel has extensive experience in running training workshops and lecturing on VAT issues ranging from small businesses through to large corporations and foreign governments on global VAT issues. Currently Nigel is also advising Ministers in the UK on reforms to the UK VAT system.

Paul Murphy

Paul is an accomplished and highly-qualified training professional, with a successful background in learning and development and 20 years management experience.

Tim Musson

Tim has many years experience as a university lecturer in computing. Since leaving the University in 2010 he has been working in data protection.  During this time he has provided training and support for various organisations including a major international bank, a major pharmaceutical company, multiple law firms, charities and public bodies.  For several years he was convenor of the Privacy Law Committee at the Law Society of Scotland and a member of their Technology Committee. He is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and holds their Certified International Privacy Professional (CIPP/E) and Certified International Privacy Technologist (CIPT) certifications.

Julie Northover

Julie has decades of experience in the payroll profession and now runs her own Payroll Bureau Service for a small number of elite clients. She teaches payroll to a broad spectrum of learners and provides consultancy services assisting organisations with a variety of compliance and best practice concerns and payroll health checks.

Julie is a former IPD Student of the Year, obtained the CIPP Diploma in Payroll Management in 2002, and has achieved individual Chartered Member status with the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals.

 

Anil Patel

Anil has worked for over 30 years in employment tax matters and specialises in the Construction Industry Scheme. He worked with the Inland Revenue as an Employer Compliance Officer and joined KPMG as an Employment Tax Manager before becoming an Associate Director with Grant Thornton.

Anil now has his own consultancy business and he works with and advises a wide range of businesses, both small and large, in all aspects of employment tax and CIS.

Stephen Pope

Stephen is a VAT Specialist at Fiscal Solutions. He is responsible for the preparation and processing of VAT returns, Intrastat reporting, EC Sales Lists and the submission of VAT claims in various EU Countries. Stephen liaises with various tax authorities across the EU.

Kirsty Semple

Kirsty Semple ACIS LLM is a Chartered Secretary.  She worked in public practice for over 20 years, specialising in governance and compliance. She has acted as Secretary for a wide range of companies – both companies limited by shares and guarantee companies. The remainder of the time she provides consultancy, training and support to Boards. She is an experienced lecturer, who also has up to date, practical experience of the role of a secretary. Kirsty is also the editor of ICSA’s Charities’ Handbook.

David Smith

David joined UK Training in October 2009 after graduating with a BA in Business Studies. In his final year at University he completed a project where he did in-depth research into delivering training over the internet. He presented his findings to UK Training and created a business case for the company to embark upon this method of delivery alongside the long established classroom presentations.

David is a key player in the design and development of the training courses - he forms the link between the subject specialists and the development team. He takes full responsibility for the delivery of the online training courses by playing the role of producer, working closely with the subject specialists, ensuring the high quality of the delivery and full satisfaction of the delegates.
